Greenfather terrain turns hexes into stat buffs.

Ivern Guide

Ivern is the 5-cost Greenfather champion in TFT Enchanted Wilds. He does not deal damage directly. Instead, he grows a biome on the board: trees, rocks, water, flowers, and mushrooms, each buffing units that stand on them. The God-Willow is the final plant and sits toward the center. Ivern is a positioning champion disguised as a stat vertical.

Use this page with the positioning guide for biome placement and the legendaries guide for when to buy Ivern. Numbers below are patch 18.1. Patch 18.2 is September 10 and not live yet.

Who is Ivern

Ivern is a 5-cost champion with the Greenfather trait. He costs 5 gold, appears primarily on Fast 9 boards, and is not a default buy. He is a solution to a specific problem: your board needs terrain stats and you have two open hexes for the biome.

That is the entire list. Ivern is one champion. His value comes from the Greenfather terrain he grows, not from his raw stats or ability damage.

How Greenfather works

When Ivern is on the board, he grows a biome each combat. The biome includes:

  • Trees: provide a shield to adjacent allies.
  • Rocks: grant bonus Armor to adjacent allies.
  • Water: grant bonus Magic Resist to adjacent allies.
  • Flowers: heal the lowest-Health adjacent ally over time.
  • Mushrooms: apply a slow to enemies that step on them.

The God-Willow is the final plant and sits toward the center of the board. It provides a large stat buff to all adjacent allies.

Units standing on biome hexes receive the corresponding buff. The biome is not a placement you copy from a screenshot — it grows based on Ivern’s position and the board state.

Ivern positioning

Ivern’s position determines where the biome grows. Place Ivern so his seeds cover the units that need the buff:

  • If your carry needs Armor, place Ivern adjacent to a rock hex.
  • If your frontline needs MR, place Ivern adjacent to a water hex.
  • If a unit needs a shield, place Ivern where trees cover them.
  • The God-Willow goes toward the center of your formation, not the edge.

Ivern is not a frontline. He is a backline terrain generator. Do not place him in the first two rows where he will be targeted.

When to buy Ivern

Buy Ivern when:

  • You are Fast 9 with two open hexes for the biome.
  • Your board lacks a specific stat that a biome hex provides.
  • You are playing a terrain-sensitive composition such as Elderwood, where plants already occupy hexes.
  • The lobby is slow and you can afford a 5-cost that does not deal immediate damage.

Do not buy Ivern when:

  • Your board is full and there is no room for a biome.
  • You need immediate damage to stabilize.
  • The enemy board has heavy AoE that will kill Ivern before the biome fully grows.

What Ivern wants

Ivern wants to cast frequently. His ability creates the biome, and the biome needs to grow before combat ends. Items that increase cast speed are ideal:

  • Spear of Shojin: grants Ability Power and gives bonus Mana after attacks.
  • Guinsoo’s Rageblade: grants Attack Speed and ability power.
  • Adaptive Helm: reduces Ability Power cooldowns.

If you are buying Ivern, itemize him for cast speed. A fast-casting Ivern fills the board with terrain before the enemy reaches your carry.

Common Ivern mistakes

Placing Ivern in the frontline where he dies before casting. Treating the biome as a decoration instead of a stat distribution tool. Forcing Ivern onto a board with no open hexes. Itemizing Ivern for raw Ability Power instead of cast speed. Ignoring biome type: placing Ivern where the resulting water hex buffs nothing because all your units already have MR.

If you need a 5-cost that deals damage, buy Elder Dragon, Maokai, or Taric from the legendaries guide. Ivern is for boards that need terrain, not boards that need damage.
