TFT Enchanted Wilds How Wisps Work in Enchanted Wilds

The Set 18 shop mechanic, from skip to Prismatic Blossom.

How Wisps Work

Wisps are the Set 18 mechanic. They are single-use shop purchases that grant combat power, champions, gold, XP, items, shop manipulation, or risky deals. Riot rebuilt them from Set 12 Charms: same idea, cleaner scouting, and a hidden champion behind every orb.

If you treat Wisps like free loot, you will leak interest. If you treat them like a fourth economy lever next to XP, rerolls, and units, Enchanted Wilds opens up. This page is the decision layer. The Wisp reference is the category sheet you keep open in a second window.

Shop rules that actually matter

  • A Wisp appears in every other shop, not simply every other round.
  • It always occupies the rightmost slot.
  • You can buy one per round unless Blossom 9 lets you buy two.
  • Purchases only work during the planning phase.
  • When planning ends, the Wisp disappears and reveals the champion that was hiding behind it.
  • You still see that champion if you skip, which is why skipping is often correct on a 4-cost hunt.
  • After Stage 5, every other Wisp is guaranteed Combat, so late rolls are less of a lottery.
  • Stronger Wisps cost more as the game goes on.

Those rules are why rolling to zero is worse in Enchanted Wilds than in Space Gods. The shop can still be holding a fight-winning Combat Wisp after your last reroll.

The seven categories

Riot color-codes Wisps so you can read them during a roll-down. After a player buys one, the icon also appears near their Tactician Health, which is free information while scouting.

CategoryJobTypical buy
CombatWin the next fightYou are on 12 Health or a streak is live
Gold/XPBuy a level or bankThe Wisp is cheaper than the XP button
ChampionInject copies or legendariesYou are one copy off a 2-star or pivoting
ShopReroll the shop into a cost bandYou need 5-costs at 8
ItemFinish or transform componentsYou have a dead component and a live carry
MiscRandom extra Wisp valueYou can afford variance
RiskyPay Health or conditions for goldYour board is already winning

Examples from patch 18.1: Circle of Elders dumps one of each 5-cost. Booster Shot temporarily upgrades 1-stars. All Fives rerolls the shop into legendaries. Grow Up sells XP. Payday pays gold for survivors. Idle Craftsman turns a bench component into a completed item.

Exact gold costs move. The category jobs do not. Use the Wisp reference when you need names, and use this page when you need the buy rule.

Buy, skip, or hold gold

  1. Check Health. Combat Wisps spike in value below 20 HP.
  2. Check the next level. An XP Wisp that hits 8 before Stage 4-1 can be worth more than its gold price.
  3. Check the board. Champion and Item Wisps only matter if they solve a real hole.
  4. Scout the next opponent. A Combat Wisp that flips a mirror match is premium.
  5. Keep spendable gold. Interest at 50 is not free if the next Wisp costs 8.
  6. Account for Blossom. At 3 the orbs upgrade. At 5 they appear every shop. At 7 you get gold back. At 9 you can buy two.

Blossom is the Wisp vertical. If you are already on Karma, Yorick, Yunara, or Ahri, read the trait rankings before you spend the rest of your gold on a different engine.

Common mistakes

Buying every Wisp because it is the set mechanic. Rolling away the unit behind a skipped Wisp without looking. Ignoring Stage 5 Combat guarantees. Forcing 11 Blossom when 7 Blossom plus a legendary from the champion tier list is stronger. Pairing a Risky Wisp with a losing board.

Wisps are tempo. The economy guide teaches you how much gold to keep so that tempo is optional instead of forced. The reroll guide shows why slow-roll comps see extra Wisps while they sit at 50 gold.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Enchanted Wilds players.

Can I buy more than one Wisp per round?

Normally no. Blossom 9 is the patch 18.1 exception. Details are in the Wisp reference.

Do skipped Wisps hide a champion forever?

No. After planning, the Wisp leaves and the unit behind it is revealed in that shop slot.

Why do late Wisps feel stronger?

They cost more and, after Stage 5, every other offer is Combat. That was a direct fix from Set 12 Charms.

Should Blossom players always buy Wisps?

More often than other players, yes, especially at 7. Still skip garbage Risky orbs when you need a 2-star.
