TFT Enchanted Wilds Enchanted Wilds Opening Encounters

What the lobby rolls before 1-1, and how to spend it.

Last updated:

Opening Encounters

Opening Encounters are the lobby-wide modifiers that fire before the first PvE round. Enchanted Wilds changed the pool on purpose. Wisps already inject variance every other shop, so Riot removed the most warping starts and added milder item and reroll encounters. If you still play as if Artifact Anvil is in the pool, you will hold components for a ghost.

This page is the Stage 1 plan. After the encounter resolves, go back to getting started and economy and Carousel. Patch 18.1 is the live list. Patch 18.2 on September 10 could cycle encounters again; check notes if a start looks unfamiliar.

New encounters in patch 18.1

EncounterWhat happensHow to play it
Completed Item Anvil StartEveryone gets one Completed Item AnvilSlam immediately. A 2-cost with a real item wins Stage 2.
Item ForgeEveryone gets two Completed Item AnvilsSlam both. Play strongest board. Do not save an anvil for a 4-cost you have not seen.
Reroll SubscriptionRerolls at the start of each stageSpend the free dice, then return to 50 gold. Do not turn it into a full reroll game unless copies are open.

Completed Item Anvil Start and Item Forge look like free wins. They are free tempo. The player who slams Infinity Edge or Gargoyle on a 2-star 2-cost streaks. The player who holds both anvils “for Ahri” walks into Stage 3 naked and donates Health. Recipes are on item recipes.

Reroll Subscription is the only new encounter that tempts you to change tempo. Free rerolls at each stage help you 2-star openers. They do not pay for a 3-star 1-cost by themselves. If Veigar or Kayle copies are actually open, then yes, the reroll guide applies. If they are not, use the dice to hit pairs and still Fast 8.

Removed encounters

Loot Subscription, Artifact Anvil, and Reroll Start are out of the Set 18 opening pool. Do not plan a game around an Artifact at 1-1. Artifacts still exist later through Augments and loot — Fishbones, Silvermere Dawn, Forbidden Idol, Manazane are in the live item pool — but they are not a guaranteed opener. Patch 18.1 notes list the Artifact and Radiant deltas.

Reroll Start was the old “you are a reroll player now” button. Its removal is why Sprykin Veigar and Solar Kayle are optional lines, not lobby-wide destinies. You choose them from copies, not from the encounter banner.

Encounters that still show up from the core pool

The rest of the familiar TFT openings can still appear: extra gold, extra components, scouting intel, and the usual anvil variants that were not named in the 18.1 add/remove list. Play them the same way you did in Space Gods, then layer Wisps on top. The new rule is simply that the three extreme starts above are gone and the three milder ones are in.

If the banner is an item anvil, look at your first two champions before you pick. A Recurve plus a Tear is not a reason to force Rapidfire. It is a reason to slam Statikk or Shojin on whoever is already 2-star. If the banner is gold, bank interest and buy the first Combat Wisp that saves a streak — how Wisps work.

Augments after the opener

Opening Encounters are not Augments. Your first Augment still arrives later. Wisp Rebate, Residual Magic, and Blossom’s Call change how many orbs you buy. Max Build and Pandora’s Bench change how you search. Young and Wild and Free matters again because Carousel is back. Pick Augments that match the encounter you already spent. Item Forge plus an economy Augment is a Fast 8 gift. Reroll Subscription plus a 1-cost carry Augment is a reroll gift. Mixing them is how you 6th. The Augment page is the pick sheet.

Unreal and the first two rounds

Patch 18.1 launched on Unreal. Loading can be slow. If your encounter anvil does not appear until after 1-2, do not panic-roll the shop empty. Collect the loot, slam, then play. Missed late PvE loot can overflow in this set; early anvils should still be clicked. Client issues belong on official links, not on a comp screenshot.

A 30-second opener script

  1. Read the banner out loud: anvil, forge, subscription, or something older.
  2. Slam items before 2-1 if you were handed completed items.
  3. Name a line only after you see a 2-star pair: Blossom, Riftbeast, Veigar, or strongest board.
  4. Leave gold for the first Wisp.
  5. Re-evaluate at Carousel 2.

If you skip step 2, the rest of the wiki cannot save the Health you already lost.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Enchanted Wilds players.

What Opening Encounters were added in Enchanted Wilds?

Completed Item Anvil Start, Item Forge (two anvils), and Reroll Subscription. Slam the anvils; do not save them.

Is Artifact Anvil still an opener?

No. Artifact Anvil, Loot Subscription, and Reroll Start were removed from the Set 18 opening pool.

Does Item Forge mean I should Fast 8?

Usually yes. Two completed items on a 2-star board streak into 8. Reroll only if a 1-cost carry is actually open.

Where do I learn what to slam?

Use the item recipes and pick the holder from the champion tier list.
