Artifacts are the high-roll completed items you see from Augments, encounters, and late loot — not the component pairs on item recipes. Patch 18.1 rotated the pool at the same time Enchanted Wilds launched: three Artifacts left, two returned, and several numbers moved enough that Space Gods muscle memory is wrong. Opening Encounters no longer start you with Artifact Anvil. If you still play as if 1-1 hands you Fishbones, read opening encounters. Artifacts now arrive later, which makes them capstones, not openers.

Removed and returned

Removed in 18.1: Death’s Defiance, Hullcrusher, Sniper’s Focus. Do not hold a component line for them.

Returned: Forbidden Idol (Health, mana regen, converts part of shields into max Health) and Manazane (AD, AP, mana regen). Idol is a tank/shield converter. Manazane is a caster battery. Both are good when the holder already wants those stats.

Radiant completed items also moved: Radiant Gargoyle Health up, Radiant Hand of Justice AD/AP up, Radiant Steadfast Heart Health down. Those are still “completed items but more,” not a new build path.

Adaptor is why Artifact direction matters

Several Enchanted Wilds carries change ability with AD versus AP: Nidalee, Master Yi, Gromp, Akali, Kog’Maw. An Artifact that dumps the wrong stat flips the form. The official Adaptor clip on this page is the reminder: itemize one direction. Mixing Guinsoo’s with Rabadon’s on Nidalee is how the trait looks F-tier.

Put Fishbones on a unit that already has damage and needs range. Put Manazane on a caster who already has Blue Buff or Shojin. Put Silvermere Dawn on a fighter who is in range to omnivamp, not on Ashe in the corner. Champion holders sit on the champion list.

How Artifacts appear in Set 18

Forged in Strength, Living Forge, and similar Augments still create Artifact events — see Augment picks. Forged in Strength now pays 1 Artifact plus a completed item and components instead of three random Artifacts, and the Health threshold is higher. You will see fewer triple-Artifact start buttons than in Space Gods.

If you hit an Artifact on Carousel or from a Wisp, slam it on the live carry. Holding Fishbones for a 5-cost you have not seen is the same mistake as holding three components. Economy and Carousel still applies.

Common mistakes

Building around Sniper’s Focus or Death’s Defiance as if they exist. Treating Fishbones as a 50% AD stick. Putting Silvermere Dawn on a backline carry who never gets hit. Feeding an Adaptor unit mixed AD/AP Artifacts. Ignoring the patch 18.1 notes and copying a Set 17 overlay.

Artifacts are loot. They do not replace a 2-star 4-cost. If the Artifact does not match the board you are already playing, sell the dream and play the comp list line that is actually open.
